Quick & Dirty .2
This original artwork is created by Julie Thompson who lives and makes work in Seattle.
Thompson approaches her two-dimensional works as if they were miniature sculptures that have been compressed and contained to paper. The intuitive method of quickly laying pieces down keeps the materials from feeling too precious. This process, which started as a quick and dirty studio exercise, has evolved into a growing series. Folding fabrics, piles of couture laundry, nature, and architecture are among the elements that activate these exploding and undulating sculptural images.
Julie Thompson works at the Seattle Art Museum as an art handler and preparator. She has her BFA in Sculpture and Painting from Winthrop University in South Carolina and her MFA in Sculpture from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA.
